Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage and recap of AEW Rampage on July 28.

This week's show featured a huge Battle Royal with most of the tag teams in AEW competing for a chance to face the winners of FTR vs. Adam Cole and MJF.

One tag team that wasn't in the Battle Royal was The Kingdom, but Mike Bennett and Matt Taven had their own match to worry about.

We also saw two former AEW women's champions collide when Nyla Rose faced Hikaru Shida, and Kip Sabian took on the high-flying Komander.

Let's take a look at what happened on this week's episode of AEW Rampage.

Tag Team Eliminator Battle Royal

Rampage opened with all of the competitors in the tag team battle royal surrounding the ring. There was a total of eight teams.

Brian Cage and Big Bill were back to working as a team after finding some chemistry during the recent bling eliminator tag tourney.

Most of the other teams were regulars on AEW TV, but it was interesting to see Ethan Page and Brother Zay included.

It came down to The Butcher and The Blade against Big Bill and Cage at the end. They paired off and started brawling. When the dust settled, Cage and Big Bill were the last men standing.

When it comes to Battle Royals, there isn't much middle ground. They tend to either be entertaining or boring. Unfortunately, the majority of this bout felt pretty uneventful until the final few minutes.

Everyone played their role, but it never felt like this was as competitive as it should have been. Part of the problem might have been that so many AEW mainstays like Best Friends and The Young Bucks weren't involved.

    Winners:

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • It was surprising to see Spanish Announce Project in this match. They have been mostly used on ROH.
    • Jay Lethal was teaming up with Satnam Singh instead of Jeff Jarrett for this match.
    • Kassidy is so agile. Hitting a springboard looks like the easiest thing in the world to him.
    • Best Friends wrestled right before this show was taped on Dynamite, so that is why they were not included in the match.

Komander vs. Kip Sabian

Alex Abrahantes was back at Komander's side for this match against Sabian, who had Penelope Ford in his corner to make things even.

Sabian tried to establish control early on by grounding the high-flyer and taunting him a bit, but Komander did exactly the same thing to him a moment later to show he wasn't intimidated.

Sabian showed off his agility with a flip off the top rope, but there aren't too many people on Planet Earth who can outshine Komander when it comes to aerial maneuvers.

Sabian hit a cannonball followed by a running shooting star press for a close two-count shorty before the masked superstar hit a shooting star press from the top rope to score the win.

    Penelope Ford is trying to steal the match for Kip Sabian!<br><br>Watch <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AEWRampage?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AEWRampage</a> on TNT!<a href="https://twitter.com/TheKipSabian?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@TheKipSabian</a> | <a href="https://twitter.com/thePenelopeFord?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@thePenelopeFord</a> <a href="https://t.co/KyWy58YouC">pic.twitter.com/KyWy58YouC</a>

This was a really fun and competitive match that showed off the similarities and differences between these two stars. Keeping the outside interference to a minimum definitely helped keep the focus on highlighting Sabian and Komander's skills.

    Winner: Komander

    Grade: B+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • People might underestimate how hard something like a simple somersault off the top rope to the mat can be. Komander makes it look easy, but it would be so easy for 99% of people to hurt their back trying the same thing.
    • Sabian could use some new entrance music.
    • The springboard dropkick from Sabian during the commercial break looked great.
    • The springboard destroyer from Komander was nuts.

The Kingdom vs. Myung-Jae Lee and Hayden Backlund

Mike Bennett and Matt Taven were in action this week against two jobbers named Hayden Backlund and Myung-Jae Lee.

The match was over in less than a minute and ended with The Kingdom getting the win faster than it took for them to make their entrance.

    Winners: The Kingdom

    Grade: Incomplete

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • No, Hayden is not Bob Backlund's son.
    • The Kingdom is a great team and should definitely hold the ROH or AEW tag titles within the next six months.

Nyla Rose vs. Hikaru Shida

4 of 5

    Rampage.
    Rampage.AEW

Rose began attacking Shida right as she got into the ring, so the ref called for the bell right away to get the match started.

The Native Beast almost got herself disqualified when she thought about using Shida's kendo stick, but she thought better of it and threw it out of the ring.

Shida is always a fighter and never lets an opponent control her for too long, so she and Rose were trading the upper hand a lot throughout the match.

After taking out Marina Shafir with her kendo stick and avoiding a Beast Bomg, Shida hit the Katana knee strike for the win.

These two have been in the ring together more than 20 times in AEW, so they know each other strengths and how to accentuate them. This was a solid way to close the show and give Shida a big win as she continues to chase the women's title.

    Winner: Hikaru Shida

    Grade: B

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • It was a little weird that Rose said Shida had to go through her to get to Toni Storm during her pre-match promo instead of saying she should be the one getting a title shot.
    • Get that paycheck, Mark Henry.
    • Shida always has the coolest entrance gear.
    • It was interesting to hear the stat from Tony Schiavone about how Shida and Rose are the two women with the most wins in all of AEW.
    • The way Rose swung Shida into the barricade looked rough.

The Final Word

5 of 5

During the closing moments of the show, The Outcasts came out to mock Shida from the apron as Excalibur informed us that Tony Khan had officially booked Storm vs. Shida to take place at Dynamite 200 for the title.

Other than the quick squash with The Kingdom, every match accomplished something on this show.

The Battle Royal set up the first match for whoever leaves MJF and Cole vs. FTR as the tag champs, Komander vs. Sabian delivered the best action of the night, and Shida vs. Rose ended with a title bout being booked for next week.

Rampage has been hit or miss in recent weeks, but it's safe to say this one falls into the hit column.

    Grade: B
