Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage and recap of AEW Collision on July 29.

After winning the Bling Eliminator Tag Team Tournament, Adam Cole and MJF got their shot at FTR and the AEW tag titles.

Andrade El Idolo continued his feud with The House of Black when he battled Buddy Matthews, Keira Hogan battled Mercedes Martinez, Samoa Joe took on the challenge of Gravity, and The Gunns teamed with Juice Robinson to face a trio of high-flyers.

We also heard from CM Punk, who has been positioned as the star of AEW's newest show since the start. Let's take a look at what happened on Saturday's episode of Collision.

Andrade El Idolo vs. Buddy Matthews

The opening match of the night was Matthews vs. El Idolo in a ladder match for Andrade's stolen mask.

These two are both very athletic and very aggressive wrestlers, so this was a competitive encounter from the moment the bell rang.

They made good use of the ladders and several other weapons from under and around the ring to inflict as much damage as possible.

Julia Hart helped Buddy handcuff El Idolo to the ropes, but he was able to fight them off nd take the key from Hart to escape. He locked Matthews in the cuffs and threw the key into the crowd.

The match ended with El Idolo pushing Julia off the ladder into Buddy's arms and through a table, allowing El Jefe to take down the mask and claim victory. This was fun from top to bottom and gave fans a conclusive and exciting finish.

    Winner: Andrade El Idolo

    Grade: A-

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Andrade's ring jacket had a United Empire vibe to it.
    • El Idolo was wearing a new style of gear with leather pants and a tank top.
    • The way the ladder hit Andrade when Matthews threw it at him looked brutal.
    • Julia had to improvise when she couldn't get the bolt cutters to work, so she jumped in the ring and got on Andrade's back.

Darby Allin vs. Minoru Suzuki

An unannounced match took place this week when Darby Alling battled Minoru Suzuki.

Allin attacked Suzuki before he got into the ring to initiate a fight at ringside. The ref tried and failed to keep things under control, but they eventually got into the ring anyway.

Suzuki began focusing on Allin's taped-up ribs by targeting all of his offense there and ripping off the protective bandages.

Allin got what some might call an upset win when he reversed a submission hold into a pin to keep Suzuki down for the three-count.

This was a fun little match with some good physicality. Christian Cage and Luchasaurus appeared on the big screen to taunt the winner.

    Winner: Darby Allin

    Grade: B

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • The bandages Allin wears around his waist don't provide much protection. Even athletic tape would provide more support.
    • Suzuki's "I'm going to kill you" face is great.
    • Allin's springboard Coffin Drop looked awesome.

Samoa Joe vs. Gravity

Fresh off his match with Pac on Dynamite, Gravity made his Collision debut against the ROH TV champion, Samoa Joe.

The high-flyer did get in a little offense, but this ended up being a quick win for Joe in just a couple of minutes. This was short but it did a good job making Joe look strong.

    Winner: Samoa Joe

    Grade: C

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • The way Gravity taunts his opponents feels exactly like what a '90s WWE wrestler would do.
    • Joe doing the walkway spot while mimicking Gravity's walk was hilarious.

The Gunns and Robinson vs. Vikingo, Martin and Andretti

CM Punk came out after a break to give an interview with Tony Schiavone. He said he wants to talk about the things nobody else wants to mention. He pulled his AEW title out of the bag and said nobody has ever beaten him for it.

He spray-painted an X over the AEW title and gave his famous line about being straight-edge and better than you. Ricky Starks came out and said he is the face of Collision and deserves that title because he has beaten Punk twice. This was a pretty good promo exchange and a great way to set up their first match.

The next match was The Gunns and Juice Robinson taking on Vikingo, Darius Martin and Action Andretti.

This was a fast-paced bout with some fun double and triple-team spots from both teams. There wasn't much of a story here, so this was simply booked to showcase the talents of all six men.

The Gunns and Robinson scored the win by pinning Martin.

Winners: The Gunns and Juice Robinson

    Grade: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Nigel McGuinness selling Starks' joke about his entrance was perfect.
    • The team of Vikingo, Andretti and Martin felt really random.
    • The cardboard cutout of Jay White was hilarious.

Kiera Hogan vs. Mercedes Martinez

5 of 7

    Collision.
    Collision.AEW

Martinez attacked Hogan first to get the action started in the only women's match on the card. The former Baddie immediately found herself on defense.

The former ROH women's champion used her size and power to dominate her smaller opponent. Hogan tried to make a comeback, but Martinez was able to regain control with a swinging neckbreaker.

They had two segments to work and put on a physical match that ended with Martinez scoring a submission win with a surfboard into a dragon sleeper.

Kris Statlander ran down to make sure Martinez released the hold but it ended with Statlander getting taken out with a clothesline. Martine posed with the TBS title until Willow made the save.

    Winner: Mercedes Martinez

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Why does it feel like all AEW women's matches happen around the same time in every show?
    • Martinez is great at doing all of the little heel things like poking eyes and using the ropes for leverage.
    • Willow Nightingale is the most natural babyface in pro wrestling.

FTR vs. Adam Cole and MJF (AEW Tag Titles)

6 of 7

The main event of the night was the AEW tag title match with Adam Cole and MJF challenging Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler.

Cole and Harwood started for their teams with a respectful but physical exchange. When it was MJF's turn in the ring, he tried to fake a leg injury, which has become his hallmark in this storyline.

MJF tried to act like a heel here and there, but for the most part, he and Cole were working as a cohesive unit.

AEW has made a reputation for itself as the home of great tag team wrestling, and this match definitely fed into that perception The action was high-energy and the near-falls were convincing. There was a few moments when it felt like MJF and Cole were going to win and the crowd was buying into it.

After a series of counters to finishing moves, Harwood ended up rolling MJF up for the win. As soon as it happened, MJF looked upset with himself for losing.

Cole turned his back and gave MJF a chance to turn on him, but MJF didn't do it. They hugged as MJF cried about having a friend. Who would have thought it would end this way?

    Winners: FTR

    Grade: B+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • MJF poses where Roderick Strong usually poses in front of Cole, but the way he was running around looks more like Shawn Michaels.
    • They shouldn't have shown a replay of MJF being pulled into the ring post during the commercial. It looked way too obvious that he did it himself.
    • One of Cole's superkicks looked like it tagged Wheeler a little harder than expected, but he was fine.
    • MJF had a counter to a clothesline where he sort of flipped over Harwood's back. It looked great and it's not the kind of thing he does very often, so it was also surprising.

The Final Word

7 of 7

This week's Collision contained quite a bit of filler, but the major moments felt very important to the future of each storyline.

The confrontation between Starks and Punk was a major highlight of the show and set them up for a singles bout in the future in a way that blurred the lines between heels and babyfaces.

We also saw our next TBS title feud put into place when Statlander and Martinez got into a fight, so the women's division was given a little attention.

FTR vs. Cole and MJF delivered in multiple ways, but when just looking at the action, Matthews and El Idolo stole the show in the opening match.

    Grade: B+
