Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage and recap of AEW Dynamite on August 16.

This week's show was the special Fight for the Fallen episode, so All Elite Wrestling packed the card with some big matches and moments.

Darby Allin teamed with Nick Wayne to take on the Gates of Agony, The Bunny faced Britt Baker for a spot at All In, The Gunns battled The Young Bucks, and Jeff Hardy fought Jeff Jarrett in a Texas Chainsaw deathmatch.

However, the biggest match on the card was the international title bout between Orange Cassidy and Wheeler Yuta.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on Wednesday's show.

Orange Cassidy vs. Wheeler Yuta

This week's Dynamite kicked off with Orange Cassidy coming to the ring to defend the International Championship against Wheeler Yuta.

OC didn't waste any time with mind games because he knew Yuta wasn't going to buy into it, so he started things off with a quick exchange of takedowns and counters.

Had this match taken place 12-18 months ago, it would have been completely different. They would have been going for comedy spots and cheap pops, but instead this was a great showing between two guys who have continued to learn, grow and advance their characters.

Yuta showed off all of the aggression he has developed since joining up with Blackpool Combat Club while Cassidy continued to show why he has been one of AEW's hottest stars for the past few years. Their unique styles meshed well to create a fun performance.

Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli came out to watch the action, and they pounced on the champ after his win and beat him down. Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta ran down to make the save but were also taken down. This brought out The Lucha Bros to go after BCC.

Eddie Kingston made his return to AEW and went after Castagnoli as soon as he arrived. The crowd was going nuts for The Mad King as he grabbed a mic and challenged BCC to a match at All In in Stadium Stampede.

    Winner: Orange Cassidy

    Grade: B

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • The growth of Yuta as a performer since joining BCC has been incredible to watch. He went from being a bland technician to a highlight of any show he appears on.
    • When Cassidy stops the mind games and just wrestles, he is still just as much fun to watch.
    • Some of the chops both men hit sounded and looked very stiff.

What Will Chris Jericho Do?

After an interview with Jim Ross and Kenny Omega ended in Don Callis and his crew attacking Omega, we got a live segment inside the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee with Callis and Chris Jericho.

Jericho said he wanted to be part of the Callis Family. Don was excited, but the veteran wanted to see the new painting he had made. He realized it was a painting of Callis holding his severed head. Don tried to explain, but Jericho wasn't having it.

Jericho told him off, and Callis slapped him across the face. The Demo God saw Konosuke Takeshita coming with a chair and beat him down before Will Ospreay knocked him down with a huge elbow strike. It took Sammy Guevara and a baseball bat to stop the attack.

This was done well and set up the eventual match between Ospreay and Jericho successfully. Nothing is official yet, but Tony Khan should confirm it soon.

    Grade: B

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • The painting was done by Mel Coleman. Go follow @MelColemanArt on Twitter.
    • The crowd seemed very invested in all of this.

Gates of Agony vs. Nick Wayne and Darby Allin

Nick Wayne and Darby Allin had a chance to take on two of Swerve Strickland's affiliates this week when they took on Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona.

Before the match got started, Swerve and AR Fox arrived with some chairs in hand. The fight started before the bell and quickly showed how much Wayne and Allin were giving up in the size and power department.

Fox and Swerve watched from the ramp as Gates of Agony cornered Wayne and decimated him with double-team offense.

This followed the same pattern as most of Allin's matches. He and Wayne spent a long time on defense before making a comeback and hitting some high-impact moves.

The babyfaces got the win when Allin hit the Coffin Drop while Wayne hit a moonsault at ringside to keep Liona from breaking up the pin.

Sting appeared on the big screen to taunt Swerve and Fox with the announcement of a Coffin match for All In on August 27.

Winners: Nick Wayne and Darby Allin

    Grade: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Liona moves like a guy half his size. It would be fun to see him get a singles run and face some of the other AEW powerhouses like Brian Cage and Luchasaurus.
    • Wayne's moonsault from the middle turnbuckle to the floor looked nice.
    • Sting looked like he was having the time of his life messing with Prince Nana.

Jeff Hardy vs. Jeff Jarrett

4 of 7

    Dynamite.
    Dynamite. AEW

Adam Cole and MJF had a long segment in which they talked about their upcoming match at All In. Aussie Open tried to attack but were taken out by the AEW champion and his best friend.

The next bout was the Texas Chainsaw Massacre deathmatch between Hardy and Jarrett. Hardy made his entrance but then went through the crowd to find Jarrett backstage. He saw a wall full of weapons but was blindsided before he could pick one.

It didn't take long for Jarrett's associates to get involved, but Brother Zay, Ethan Page and Matt Hardy showed up to lend a hand.

This started out as pure mayhem but the longer it went, the harder it was to tell what was going on, especially during the picture-in-picture segment. It felt like this wasn't fully planned out at times, so there were awkward moments when it felt like people were waiting for something to happen.

The final segment in the ring, with the tables and everyone involved, was entertaining, so the match was bookended by the best parts.

Somebody came out dressed as Leatherface but instead of helping Double J, he chased Karen Jarrett away with a chainsaw.

Satnam Singh and Jay Lethal attacked Hardy and allowed Jarrett to cover him for the win.

    Winner: Jeff Jarrett

    Grade: C

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Hardy will always have a special connection to the crowd.
    • The fake blood didn't really add anything to what we saw but Jeff's white outfit definitely made it pop.
    • The table didn't break right away when Hardy hit the Swanton. That must have been painful for Jarrett.

The Bunny vs. Britt Baker

5 of 7

    Dynamite.

Baker and Bunny shook hands at the start, but it quickly turned into a shoving match before turning into an outright fight.

Penelope Ford was at ringside with Bunny and helped her friend get the upper hand during the break by attacking DMD while the ref was distracted.

Baker made a comeback when we returned from the commercial and was able to score he win to earn a spot at All In at Wembley Stadium in London.

This was a solid encounter that probably didn't need the outside interference, especially since it happened during the break when fewer people are watching.

    Winner: Britt Baker

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Nobody in AEW is as good as The Bunny at doing the "crazed" face.
    • This year's FFTF show was done to benefit the Maui wildfires. Excalibur announced all the information during the match on how people can donate.

The Gunns vs. Young Bucks

6 of 7

    Dynamite.
    Dynamite.AEW

The main event got started early when Nick and Matt Jackson attacked Austin and Colten Gunn on the stage as they were making their entrance.

Even after they got the ring and the ref called for the bell, this never ended up being a standard tag match. All four guys were active the entire time, even when they were supposed to just be on the apron waiting for a tag.

The Gunns have grown so much over the past year, and this match really highlighted all of the ways they have improved. They have a level of smoothness that only comes from being comfortable in the ring.

This match and Cassidy vs. Yuta were the two highlights from this week's show. The Bucks have a specific style of wrestling and if you are into that, you likely came away from this with a smile on your face.

Austin and Colten put up a good fight, but they weren't up to the challenge of beating the former tag champs. After preventing The Gunns from cheating, the Bucks used the same tactic to score the win. Juice Robinson and Jay White immediately attacked the winners.

FTR showed up to take out The Bang Bang Gang and help their opponents for All In clear the ring. The show ended with FTR and the Bucks having a standoff.

    Winners: The Young Bucks

    Grade: B+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • How did The Gunns end up with one of the best entrances in AEW?
    • You can tell Colten and Austin have been hitting the gym.
    • It's always surprising when AEW gives up the chance to have the Bucks make their usual entrance because the crowd loves it so much.

The Final Word

7 of 7

Nobody is going to say this week's episode was the best, but it had enough to keep the average fan invested throughout most of the night.

Yuta and Cassidy put on a fun match to get things going, and the Bucks and Gunns closed the show with an energetic tag team bout.

The themed Texas Chainsaw Massacre deathmatch didn't exactly live up to the hype, but if you like weird concepts and mayhem, you might get a kick out of it.

The segment with Jericho and Callis was also one everyone should take the time to watch as it helped set up more than one potential match in the coming months.

    Grade: C+
